About Lodestar:

Youth sports have become so large and so expensive that too many kids get left on the sidelines. We believe every kid deserves the chance to grow through sport — not just the ones who can afford it.

That’s why I’m making training accessible, rewarding, fun, affordable, and meaningful. And I’m keeping this business small on purpose. When you try to focus on too much, quality diminishes. By staying small, I can stay true to the mission: giving every kid a real opportunity to learn, compete, and grow.

Meet the Founder: LodestarTraining - Kim Scott, CPT

I was raised in North Phoenix, in a big family where sports, grit, and service were the norm. Basketball was my first love — I played competitively from 6th grade until graduating from Greenway High School. I continued playing through junior college at Glendale Community College.

When my mom faced a terminal illness, I chose to stay close to home and began a 24-year career in law enforcement, starting with the Arizona Department of Corrections and then serving with the Mesa Police Department. Throughout my career, I stayed committed to youth development: mentoring in our cadet program, running basketball camps, and creating the Aspire Academy for teenage girls.

After retiring from policing, I didn’t slow down. I became a 5th grade teacher at Legacy Traditional School where I coached girls’ and boys’ basketball and boys’ baseball. Today, I still coach my daughter’s volleyball team and a coed basketball team. Coaching and mentoring young people isn’t just what I do — it’s who I am.

I’m extremely self-motivated and treat fitness as a daily, non-negotiable practice. Running, weight training, and functional mobility keep me grounded, along with beach time, reading, and daily meditation. I’m married with 3 kids, hold a bachelor’s degree from ASU, and I’m a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) a Youth Fitness Trainer (YFT) and Nutrition Coach - through ISSA.
